Secondary 1 Tuition
Algebra, new sciences and the move to secondary school
What Secondary 1 tuition at EduZ covers
Secondary 1 replaces the four PSLE subjects with eight or more, introduces algebra, and under Full Subject-Based Banding lets students take each subject at the G1, G2 or G3 level. The pace is faster than primary school and teachers assume students can study on their own. Most students need a term to adjust; some need help to avoid falling behind in that term.
Our Sec 1 Maths lessons cover numbers, factors and multiples, approximation, basic algebra, linear equations, functions and graphs, percentage, ratio and rate, and basic geometry. Science introduces the lower secondary syllabus across physics, chemistry and biology themes, with the data-analysis and explanation questions that are new at this level. English works on summary, comprehension with higher-order questions, expository and narrative writing and oral. Chinese covers composition, comprehension and oral for the secondary syllabus.
Lessons are 1.5 to 2 hours in a small group. We also publish free Sec 1 Maths practice questions by topic.

Since 2024, Secondary 1 students are no longer streamed into Express, Normal (Academic) and Normal (Technical). Instead each subject is taken at G1, G2 or G3 (G3 being the most demanding), based on PSLE results, and students can move a subject up if they do well. The first cohort under this system sits the new Singapore-Cambridge Secondary Education Certificate exam in 2027 in place of the O and N Levels. Our tutors teach to the level your child is taking in each subject.
It is common. Secondary school asks students to organise their own revision across more subjects, and algebra is a different way of thinking from primary Maths. A weekly small-group lesson gives structure to the week and a tutor who spots the gap early, which is usually all that is needed.
Secondary classes are $220 to $250 for four lessons of 1.5 to 2 hours each, depending on the subject. There is no registration fee and no material fee. If your child takes two subjects you get $20 off, and three or more subjects get $60 off. The full table is on the fees page.
Classes run on weekday afternoons and evenings (2pm to 10pm) and on weekends (9am to 7pm). The timetable differs by centre and changes as classes fill, so we do not publish it. Message the centre on WhatsApp with your child's level and subject and we will send you the current slots.
Yes. A free trial lesson is available to new students who book one in advance. Book the trial online or message the centre on WhatsApp, and we will place your child in the right class for their level and subject.
Try a lesson before you decide
Secondary 1 classes run at our four centres in Woodlands, Admiralty, Choa Chu Kang and Yishun. Tell us your child's school and subjects and we will suggest a class, or book a free trial lesson and see how it goes.
