Maths tuition from Primary 1 to H2 Mathematics
Maths is the subject where tuition shows the clearest results, because the marks come from method and practice rather than talent. Our Maths department is led by a former JC teacher and NTU Nanyang Scholar, and the lessons at every level follow the same idea: understand the concept, learn the standard method, then practise the question types the exam uses until they are automatic.
At primary level the lessons build number sense in P1 and P2, introduce the model method in P2 and P3, and work through the PSLE problem-sum types (fractions, ratio, percentage, speed, rate) in P5 and P6. At secondary level we teach E Math for every student and A Math for those who take it, from Sec 1 algebra to the O Level papers. At JC level we teach H1 and H2 Mathematics, including the statistics half of the H2 syllabus that many students meet for the first time in JC2.
Each section below lists what our lessons cover at each level. We also give away free Secondary Maths practice questions by topic. Classes are small groups at Woodlands, Admiralty, Choa Chu Kang and Yishun.

Maths lessons by level
Our P1 Math covers numbers, simple mathematical equations, measurements, geometry and comprehending pictorial graphs.
Application-based questions about length, time and money will help students gain awareness of the importance of math in everyday life.
Primary 1Our P2 Math explores more advanced concept in numbers and mathematical equations, while using numbers up to 1000. Topics involving mass, volume and fractions will also be introduced to prepare students for P3.
Crucial presentation skills are taught to students to instil a good writing habit from young. Rectification of any misconceptions is also important in P2 to ensure students have an accurate understanding of mathematics.
Primary 2Our P3 Math explores numbers and mathematical equations, while using numbers up to 10 000. Additional topics in area, perimeters, angles and perpendicular and parallel lines are introduced. Statistical components like analysing scales and bar graphs are also taught to prepare students for P4.
Students in P3 will learn skills more specific to answering examinations questions accurately, using the foundation set at primary 1 and 2.
Primary 3Our P4 Math explores more mathematical symbols and numbers, while using numbers up to 100 000. Additional topics in factors, multiples, decimals and symmetry are introduced. Students are also taught to create and analyse tables and line graphs.
Students in P4 continue to work on answering techniques while practising application-based mathematics concepts and questions.
Primary 4Our P5 Math explores calculation of area and volume of 3D figures while differentiating between parallelogram, rhombus and trapezium. Students also learn about statistical mean and median in a set of data. Ratio, rate and speed are introduced.
Students in P5 learn tips and tricks to use their calculator efficiently while building good habits like double-checking their own answers to minimise the loss of marks.
Primary 5Our P6 Math covers the remaining PSLE topics in algebra, nets and pie charts.
Problem sums that involve real-world situations and combines the knowledge of multiple concepts are a top priority to prepare students for the challenging final exam.
Revision will be focused on drilling concepts and clearing any erroneous understanding of mathematics through practising past year examination questions.
Primary 6S1 Math builds upon a wide range of topics like numeric operations, ratio, percentage, rate, speed and geometry. New topics like algebra, inequalities, graphs and mensuration are introduced. Students’ first introduction to statistics and probability comes at the end of the year, where they learn simple data analysis and interpretation.
Students are taught to master basic algebra with conceptual drills and questions of varying difficulty. Questions attempted are also more problem-based and require a systematic and logical approach in answering.
Secondary 1S2 Math revisits and introduces more complex concepts in topics like ratio, algebra, functions, graphs and inequalities, data analysis. New topics this year includes understanding congruence, similarity, the Pythagoras theorem, introduction to trigonometry and also probability.
Students are taught to identify question requirement and the appropriate method to use. Questions tends to be more application-based. Students are expected to build a habit to check their own answers to minimise careless errors and loss of marks. Revision will be focused on mastering all the lower secondary math topics to prepare students for their final exams.
Secondary 2E. Math
S3 E. Math revises and expand students’ knowledge on topics from the lower secondary math. New concepts include indices, coordinate geometry, set notation, matrices, properties of circles and further trigonometry and its application.
Students are taught to integrate existing knowledge with upper secondary topics while honing their presentation skills. Building of good habits like double checking their own answers is also crucial to minimise the loss of marks.
Secondary 3S4 E.Math continues to introduce new concepts like vectors, radian measurement and additional statistical plots. Familiarisation of the equations in the mathematical formulae is also crucial to become exam ready.
Identification of topics and question requirements is prioritised, along with practising ample examination questions for exposure.
Intensive revision will be focused on mastering all the E Math concepts through topical revision packages. Examination skills such as time management and error analysis will be honed through practice tests.
Secondary 4A. Math
S3 A Math focuses largely on advanced trigonometry with concepts on addition formula, double-angle formula, and R formula and drawing of the sine and cosine graphs. Non-trigonometry concepts are still covered, and these includes inequalities, indices and surds, polynomials and partial fractions and binomial expansions.
Manipulation of symbols and functions is a crucial skill in A Math. Students are also frequently expected to prove expressions using identities and formulae and communicate inferences and conclusions to problem sums.
Secondary 3S4 A Math continues to introduce more concepts, namely calculus, geometric theorems, and application-based kinematics.
Problem sums that involving real-world situations and combines the knowledge of multiple concepts are a top priority to prepare students for the challenging final exam.
Intensive revision will be focused on mastering all the A Math concepts through topical revision packages. Examination skills such as time management and error analysis will be honed through practice tests.
Secondary 4H1/2 Math
In our JC1 H1 Math, pure math topics such as Calculus, equations and inequalities and exponential, logarithmic function are covered. Meanwhile JC1 H2 math students learn the more advanced pure math topics such as functions, graphs, Sequences and Series, vectors, complex numbers, and advanced calculus.
In our JC1 math, students are taught to master the use of their Graphic Calculator (GC) to solve and check for answers. They are also taught to identify the topic for each question and integrate various concepts to present answers.
Junior College 1In the second year, our JC math focuses on statistical mathematics. In H1, topics such as computation of probability, binomial and normal distributions, sampling, and hypothesis testing as well as correlation and regression are covered. JC2 H2 math is highly similar with an additional topic in general and specific discrete distribution models.
In the second year, we prioritise tutorials questions involving real-world situations that combines the knowledge of multiple concepts. We also practice using the GC for answering of statistics-related questions and learn to identify question trends and marking criteria through commonly tested exam questions.
In the second year, revision will be focused on mastering all the H1/2 Math topics through topical revision packages. Examination skills such as time management and error analysis will be honed through practice tests.
Junior College 2Questions parents ask about Maths
Elementary Mathematics (E Math) is the compulsory O Level maths subject: numbers, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, mensuration, statistics and probability, applied to everyday problems. Additional Mathematics (A Math) is an optional subject taken from Sec 3 that goes further into algebra, trigonometry, calculus and coordinate geometry. A Math is the usual route into H2 Mathematics at JC and helps with engineering, science and computing diplomas.
Usually one of three things: careless slips under time pressure, not showing working so method marks are lost, or not recognising which method a new-looking question wants. Our lessons address all three with timed practice, marking that follows the exam scheme, and sorting questions by type so students learn to recognise them.
H2 Maths has two halves. Pure maths extends A Math (functions, sequences and series, vectors in three dimensions, complex numbers, calculus with more techniques) and statistics is almost entirely new (probability, distributions, sampling, hypothesis testing, correlation and regression). The questions are longer and less signposted, so JC lessons spend as much time on reading a question as on the maths.
Weekday afternoons and evenings (2pm to 10pm) and weekends (9am to 7pm). The timetable differs by centre and changes as classes fill, so we do not publish it. Message the centre with the level and subject and we will send the current slots.
Yes. A free trial lesson is available to new students who book one in advance. Book the trial online or message the centre on WhatsApp with the level and subject, and we will place your child in a suitable class.
