Economics tuition for the A Levels
Economics is new to almost every JC1 student, and it is examined almost entirely through writing: case-study questions with data to interpret and essays that need a structured argument with diagrams. Students who know the content but write descriptive answers are stuck at a C. Our lessons teach the content and the writing together.
In JC1 the lessons cover microeconomics (demand and supply, elasticity, market failure, firms and market structures) and the start of macroeconomics (national income, inflation, unemployment). In JC2 we complete macroeconomics (international trade, exchange rates, fiscal and monetary policy) and move to full revision with past-year and prelim papers. Every few weeks students write a timed essay or case study that is marked against the A Level scheme.
H1 and H2 students are taught the scope of their own paper. Classes are 2-hour small groups at Woodlands, Admiralty, Choa Chu Kang and Yishun.

Economics lessons by level
JC1 will focus on the microeconomics analysis (individual and societal levels) where idea of unlimited wants, limited resources and knowledge of how firms and markets function are introduced to students. H1 Economics is a lighter load than H2 - with lesser content, with the removal of topics such as Firms and Decisions, and are only examinable on case studies.
Our JC1 economics explicitly teach the relevant economic skills like the tools and methods of analysis used by economists, the ability to explain and analyse economic issues and evaluate perspectives and decisions of economic agents.
Junior College 1In the second year, H1 Economics students will cover basic macroeconomics analysis like Aggregate Demand, Aggregate Supply, Standard of Living, as well as 3 out of the 4 macroeconomic aims. H2 Economics focuses on macroeconomics analysis, international trade and globalisation. It provides an overview of the workings and linkages of the national and international economy. In addition, the impact of external trends and developments on the domestic regional and global economies, and their implications for policy choices and decisions of governments, are discussed.
In the second year, carry-over writing, analytical and essay writing skills will be applied to the new topics taught. These skills will be refined as more practice questions are performed under timed situations. Links between the first year and second year topic will also be made clear.
In the second year, revision will be focused on mastering all the H1/2 Economics topics through topical revision packages. Examination skills such as time management and error analysis will be honed through practice tests.
Junior College 2Questions parents ask about Economics
H1 Economics is examined through case studies only and covers a smaller set of topics. H2 Economics adds an essay paper and goes deeper into market structures, macroeconomic policy and international economics. The thinking skills are the same, so H1 and H2 students share our classes and are set work for their own paper.
With a fixed structure that students practise until it is natural: define the terms, set up the analysis with the right diagram, develop the argument with a real-world example, then evaluate. Students write under timed conditions and get the essay back with comments on where the marks were and were not earned, which is more useful than a grade alone.
Yes. Low JC1 Economics grades usually come from writing, not understanding, and writing improves quickly with marked practice. One of our students went from a U at the mid-year tests to an A at the promotional exams; the testimonial is on our results page.
Weekday afternoons and evenings (2pm to 10pm) and weekends (9am to 7pm). The timetable differs by centre and changes as classes fill, so we do not publish it. Message the centre with the level and subject and we will send the current slots.
Yes. A free trial lesson is available to new students who book one in advance. Book the trial online or message the centre on WhatsApp with the level and subject, and we will place your child in a suitable class.
