DEALING with Stress
By the EduZ Tuition team of tutors. Meet the team.
Hey there! Stress is like an uninvited guest that shows up at the most inconvenient times! It can really take a toll on your physical and emotional health, not to mention your academic performance. As students, there are so many things that can cause stress - from juggling school work to navigating relationships. But don't worry, you're not alone! Learning how to manage stress is key to staying healthy, happy and successful. Plus, studies have shown that high levels of stress can impact your work effectiveness and lead to poor academic performance. So let's work together to find ways to manage stress and thrive!

1. Track your stressors
Use a diary to find out which situations cause the most stress and how you react to them. Record your thoughts, feelings and information about the environment, including the people and circumstances involved, the physical environment and how you reacted. The notes can help you identify patterns in your stressors and your reactions to them so that you can develop a plan to manage your stress.

2. Tap into your support system
Turn to your family or friends. Your friends or family members may have overcome similar challenges and have useful ideas and perspectives. You do not have to face challenging life circumstances alone. In fact, the support of family or friends can help you take better care of yourself.

3. Make one health-related commitment
Do what you can to strengthen your health so you have the energy and strength to meet the challenges you face. A small step, such as refraining from excessive snacking, can have a positive effect. Similarly, a brisk walk or other aerobic activity can boost your energy and concentration and reduce anxiety. Physical activity increases the body's production of beneficial endorphins and reduces the production of stress hormones.
4. Manage your devices
People who report constantly checking email or social media tend to report more stress. Give yourself a break at the weekend and in the evening. Put your phone to bed before you go to bed.

5. Enhance your sleep quality
Start relaxing an hour or two before going to sleep, for example by listening to relaxing music, reading a nice book or using relaxation techniques such as meditation.

6. Seek additional help
If you continue to feel overwhelmed or have difficulty managing your daily routine, you should see a psychologist. Psychologists are trained to help you develop strategies to effectively manage stress and make changes that will improve your overall health.
